FILOMENA FERNANDEZ represents the fusion of Latin American culture and femininity with Asian simplicity and aestheticism.
Designers, Kyoko Higa and Maritza Fernandez met in Tokyo, Japan in 1989 when Maritza moved from Venezuela to Tokyo. In Japan, Maritza worked as an assistant to Kyoko at her company, Rose is a Rose. Thereafter, Kyoko began to develop her own line, Kyoko Higa, in Japan. In 1992, Maritza continued her career with Kyoko, selling the line in the United States.
After 23 years as partners, the designers developed Filomena Fernandez in 2011. The line was developed with the goal of reinventing the essential everyday basics and create clothing that is chic and distinctive. The originality in design details makes these fundamental pieces unique while maintaining a laid-back yet modern look. Filomena Fernandez Latin American & Asian-inspired womenswear line emphasizing modern minimalism that is both practical and sophisticated. The wearable separates, include a range of loose-fitting knits, wide-leg trousers along with modern skinny pants and classic cardigans and blazers.

Filomena Fernandez opened its first flagship store in Coral Gables, Florida. The boutique is available for private events and will soon feature a Café. The brand is also sold through multiple wholesale locations across the U.S. and Latin America.
FILOMENA FERNANDEZ DESIGN TEAM
Born in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela, with Italian roots, designer Maritza Fernandez spen her childhood surrounded by water, mountains and homemade pasta. Her grandmother, Filomena became her role model and treasured friend. As a young child and through Filomena’s encouragement, Maritza began to develop her creativity and fashion-sense. This led her to The Design Academy Institute in Caracas, Venezuela where Maritza graduated as a fashion designer in 1989.
Kyoko Higa, lives in Tokyo, Japan and has an extensive background in fashion and design. In 1975 she graduated from BUNKA Fashion College and joined the World Co., Ltd team as an apparel designer. After working ten years of working in the industry, Kyoko developed her first ladies brand in 1987, Rose is a Rose in Tokyo Japan. Soon after, she was nominated as a member of the Council of Fashion Designers and won the “Silver Yarn Award” at the International Linen Festival in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
In 1990 she founded Kyoko Higa Creation Inc., and she developed the Kyoko Higa line throughout Japan with great success. Throughout her career she has participated in several international exhibitions and has been interviewed and appeared in a variety of media outlets. Currently, Kyoko sells her own line through the BS broadcasting “shopping channel” in Japan.
